Certainly one of the most controversial aspects of the upcoming X-MEN 3 (other than Brett Ratner as director, the supposed killing of some of the main characters, the supposed relegation of the Phoenix storyline to the background, the supposed expanded role of Storm and the sneaking suspicion that Ratner may be batshit crazy) has been the addition of the affectionately titled "mutant whore" character of Pherma (or Stacy X) whose power is to secret a special pheromone which seduces men. A few weeks ago there was a rumor that tennis players' Venus and Serena Williams were vying for the part. However, website BMI is reporting (via superhero hype) that the "underwear assassin" from the upcoming TRANSPORTER 2, Kate Nauta, is up for the role of the pheromone-secreting mutant. Looking at the stills and trailer for THE TRANSPORTER, she certainly has the look down but, as always, it's just a rumor until somebody "official" comes out and confirms it by saying "no comment" or denies it by saying "what are you, on crack?"
Since the announcement that Brett Ratner would be taking over the reins on X3 quite a few people, including Ratner, have opened up about the film. As Ratner is gonna be the guy in charge of the whole show, though, let's start with what he had to say. He recently spoke with MTV and while he didn't really say anything beyond what we already know, there are some interesting things to note. First of all, he periodically refers to himself in the third person. When asked about Bryan Singer, he mentioned "Bryan Singer and Brett Ratner are in that age range who grew up on comics." It's so randomly bizarre that I thought it merited special mention. Second, he mentioned that Singer left because he "didn't like the material" but he, however, doesn't believe the movie is "tainted". I'm not too sure how to take that or what it means, really. What part of the material did Singer not like? The script? What exactly did Ratner mean when he referred to the material as tainted? Third, he's well aware of the fans' skepticism (to say the least) about him directing X3 - in his words "[They think] I'm the antichrist!" However, he doesn't seem to be phased by it and mentioned …all I know is what I know, what I can do and what I have to work with." Finally, for some reason, humor seems to be on his list of things to step-up. He wants to add "jokes that come from character humor, that come from characters and that come from the situations." ...Ok.
Meanwhile, over at Dark Horizons they have an update on the status of Marvel's upcoming films:
- The first trailer for X3 may be out in December, possibly with prints of KING KONG.
- Jigsaw may be the next villain in the PUNISHER sequel. The tentative subtitle for the sequel is WAR ZONE.
- The director for the feature adaptation of NAMOR is Chris Columbus with no one cast as the lead (although The Rock, Jude Law and Matt Damon are possibilities.
- IRON MAN has officially been placed on hiatus possibly to allow for Tom Cruise to star (huh? I thought Cruise said he wasn't doing it anymore?).
- Director John Singleton may be looking to Tyrese Gibson to take the lead role in LUKE CAGE.
- Lee Tamarohi is no longer directing DEATHLOK with the reason for his departure unknown (possibly because he thinks Avi Arad is a doody-head).
- According to Arad, THOR will be the LORD OF THE RINGS of comic book films. So does that mean it'll have hobbits with hairy feet?
This new movie idea I read for a Bruce Campbell (of Evil Dead fame) sounds amazing:
Bruce Campbell recently said in an interview that one of his next projects involved him playing himself in a movie where people think he really is Ash from THE EVIL DEAD series.
"And then in the Fall I'm going to start a new film for Dark Horse comics, a cool company set in Portland, they're making movies now. It's an untitled Bruce Campbell movie where I play myself. It's about a small town that is having problems with a monster and nothing's working so somebody suggests, 'Let's get the Evil Dead guy!' Unfortunately, in reality I don't own a gun, I've never used a chainsaw and more die than before I got there."

All I have to say is... OMFG!
